The Great War: South Africans Recover to Win a Major Battle

One of the greatest problems in life is that we don’t have a Soundtrack.

I once saw a Documentary on TV about a great marathon runner who was trying to make a comeback after serious injury. I don’t recall the name of the Documentary, but I promise you I watched it. At least 45 minutes of the 60 minute story featured footage of the poor guy doing stamina runs up a hill before sunrise, running ridiculous distances in the searing heat; stuff like that. No one clapped. No crowd roared in the stands. No camera frantically snapped a pic of his determined face as he ran by. No editor music-cued the audio of “Chariots of Fire” to accompany the recovering runner’s epic journey back to the top. It was just him, all by himself; and if I remember correctly he wept more than once and wanted to just throw in the towel quite a few times along the way.

The Documentary ended with the Great Race for which the runner had been preparing. He won it. Easily. And they all cheered. And the cameras flashed. And the interviewers congratulated him on his strength and perseverance, almost as if they’d secretly been supporting his journey of recovery all along.

I found myself thinking, after watching that Documentary, that there were actually many great milestones along the way, as the marathon runner prepared for his big comeback race. Reasons for celebration, like running internationally competitive times again along his training journey, as he did. It would have been great if someone could have just blown a trumpet, or something, when our intrepid marathon runner achieved all of those milestones; if nothing else, it would have at least given him Hope.

The Great War to remove evil from our Land will not be easy and it is not over. But let’s stop for a moment today to celebrate, let’s add a splurge of Soundtrack to the proceedings and can someone please grab that tiny trumpet over there under the dusty cover in the corner and give it a mighty blow? We have won the Information War! You know, the thing where some idiot used to go on live TV and say things like “Farm Murders are ordinary crimes”? Yes, that War. It’s over.

We all followed the saga, from the lies and naked denials about Farm Attacks, to the confrontation between the Greatest Leader on Earth and another not-so-great-leader in the White House, with a screening of some not-so-proud-moments from the not-so-great-leader’s country. And now the American Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, & Labor (DRL) has filed a damning, independent report on Farm Murders in South Africa, inter alia stating that these murders are not ordinary crimes, and that they threaten the very fabric of financial ties between America and South Africa. This means that an independent American Investigation has confirmed that the South African Government’s denial of the crisis of Farm Murders is disingenuous and false.

YOU did it. WE did it. We won what was perhaps the most important battle in the War for the Soul of this Nation. On Twitter/X. On Facebook. On YouTube. They call you a South African keyboard warrior, I call you a hero. And today, I salute you. Be courageous and never fear.

In the End, We Win.
