A video has surfaced of North Korean soldiers receiving army kits, at a base in Russia's Far East, to join the Russian Army's war effort in Ukraine. Following the steady supply of arms and ammunition by North Korea to Russia, this dramatic escalation has not gone unnoticed and the South Korean Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador to Seoul regarding these reports, stating that:
"We hold a firm stance on this matter, demanding the immediate withdrawal of North Korean troops and strongly urging the cessation of any related cooperation."
South Korean intelligence claims that North Korea plans to deploy 12,000 troops to Russia for participation in military operations in Ukraine, while approximately 1,500 special forces soldiers are already stationed at military bases in the Far East for training and acclimatization.
South Korea is now considering sending its own troops to fight for Ukraine, and supplying Ukraine with 155mm artillery shells in response to North Korea sending troops to Russia, which marks a stark departure from South Korea's usual policy against exporting weapons to conflict zones.
